Term Three 2011

Barney's Janma helped us to create some beautiful

floral decorations using native plants from her garden. We used them to decorate the supper tables at our Marz Production.

Jewish New Year

Nikau and her family shared apple and honey with us to celebrate the Jewish New Year.

Ball skills

This term we have been doing big ball skills with Helen. Lily, Nina, Eva, Barney, Emilie and Sam are playing a game with the rugby ball.

How eggs change

We looked at eggs and how their consistency can change. The egg is protected inside a hard shell.

How eggs change

When the egg came out of the shell it was wobbly and slimy and see through. When we tried to pick it up it felt slippery and gooey.

How eggs change

When we put the egg in a hot pan it started to change. The clear part went white and firm and the yolk went firm too.

Jelly beans

We did an experiment with 4 different coloured jelly beans. We put one colour in each corner of the dish of water and watched what happened to the colours. Look how each colour has spread along each edge of the container.

Making butter

We made butter by shaking up cream. Tana started by pouring the cream into a big jar.

Making butter

We had to shake the cream for a very long time to make it go solid. We all had lots of turns shaking the jar. Sam shook it really hard.

Making butter

The cream began to thicken and then separated out into thicker creamy fat and watery stuff. It is a bit like curds and whey.

Making butter

Louis poured out the solid cream and let the watery part drain off.

Making butter

This was the finished butter which we had with on our homemade bread.

yoga

Some of us have been learning to do some yoga poses and stretches with Nikau,s Mum Noa. Jack, Barney, Caden and Tana are all doing the warrior pose.
