End of year picnic for Room Two



Sabine helped us to get ready for the picnic by making some lemonade.

Bike Week 29th November 2010


This week has been bike week at school. Everybody has had great fun.
Lily and Mackenzie have learnt to ride their bikes without trainer wheels - fantastic!!

First we had to design our fridge magnet.

Lily is painting the disk with a backgroung colour before she puts on her design.

Every Tuesday Story Grandad and Story Gran come to listen to us reading.

Week Two





Matua Madson comes every week and teaches us Kapa Haka. It is fun learning all the actions and songs in Maori.

Gardening



We have started clearing our raised gardens ready for planting with yummy veggies. Tim is helping us at Reading Time.

More Magnets


We have been investigating what materials a magnet will attract a paper clip through.
Wren and Eden are trying to get the paper clips out of the bottle of water with a magnet and not get their fingers wet.

Week One Term Four



We started off the week with a visit from The Secondary School's Brass Band.

They were awesome! We learned all the names of their instruments and the different sounds they make.

Magnets



We have been looking at magnets and compasses.

Mia and Cilla investigate how a magnet attracts and repels.

Cha Cha's puppies



Paris's Dad brought in Cha Cha with her five puppies. Cha Cha was very good letting us cuddle them. They were very tiny and very cute.

Term Three 2010 in Rata Class

This term we have been very busy as usual.
Here are some of the highlights.

Writing instructions


We have been writing instructions. We wrote instructions on how to clean your teeth.
Eden, Sophie, Shianne and Cameron follow the insructions to see if they make sense.

Making repeating patterns


We have been looking at repeating patterns in maths.
Ethan is making a pattern with the rods.

Magnets


We have started studying magnets. We have been experimenting with what they attract.
Caleb is playing with some magnetic rods and a magnetic figure.

A visit from Melissa and Lola





Melissa and Lola came for a visit.
We were surprised at how big Lola is now. Lola loved looking at all our faces. She really liked showing off by rolling over.Lola is sooo cute!

Paris's lambs



Paris has been looking after twin lambs. They are called Lady and Tramp.She has to feed them every day.
We had a go at feeding them from a bottle.

Big Ball Skills






We have been learning throwing and catching skills with big balls.
Mia throws the ball to her buddy.

Spring is here





We have been noticing lots of spring flowers.
Sophie studies these daffodils very carefully and tries to use the right colours. We noticed that not all daffodils are yellow!

We are authors


We have all written a book. It took a long time. First we had to plan our story with a storyboard and then we had to write it. Sally and Clare published our stories on the computer. We are really proud of our books.

Book Week


Some of our parents and grandparents came to read to us in book week.

End of Term Three Dress up day





At the end of Book Week we ahd a dress up day when we all dressed up as a character from a book.

Week 11- the last week of Term Two



We celebrated Matariki - the Maori New Year. We had a shared feast and walked around the track in the dark with the lanterns we made.

Dancing in our masks



We have been learning a folk dance called "Strip the Willow". We practised the dance, wearing our masks that we made with Clare.

Room One Transition



Five children are moving up to Room Two next term from Room One. We had a lovely time snuggling up on the new sofas in the library.

Week Ten




For our maths this week we have been studying tallies and making graphs. We stood next to the highway and checked what colour cars drove by.

Truck safety



We all had turns sitting in this big truck to see what the driver can see when he is driving. We talked about the "blind spot".

More about electricity



Wren checks out how static electricity makes the balloon stick to the curtain when you rub it on your hair. Look at what it does to your hair too!

Week 9 The Cross country



We did the cross country at the Hunter's Farm.
